Sensational Afropop singer, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe shared the origin of her stage name, \u201cAyra Starr<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

During an interview for Arise TV\u2019s Christmas special, the gifted artist revealed that her label boss, Michael \u201cDon Jazzy\u201d Ajereh, contributed to the choice of name.<\/p>\n

The \u201cSabi\u201d vocalist stated that she came up with the word \u201cAyra,\u201d which means \u201cwoke and open-minded,\u201d and that Jazzy contributed the suffix \u201cStarr.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to joining with Mavin Records, Ayra Starr disclosed that her stage name was \u201cOyin,\u201d a moniker taken from her given name, Oyinkansola.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is this Yoruba name called Ira, I wanted people to pronounce it as \u2018Aira.\u2019 And I was like the only way they can pronounce it is by spelling it \u2018A Y R A.\u2019 So, I was thinking about it and something just told me to go \u2018A Y R A.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

And went I did, everything just came together: The meaning of the name, it felt like God was speaking to me. And \u2018Starr\u2019 was Don Jazzy\u2019s idea. Ayra means \u2018woke and open minded.\u2019 And that\u2019s what I want. I want to be honoured and respected.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
