{"id":134314,"date":"2023-12-22T19:15:40","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T19:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/22\/recent-positive-signals-in-ghanas-economy-shows-improvement-world-bank\/"},"modified":"2023-12-22T19:15:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T19:15:40","slug":"recent-positive-signals-in-ghanas-economy-shows-improvement-world-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/22\/recent-positive-signals-in-ghanas-economy-shows-improvement-world-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent positive signals in Ghana\u2019s economy shows improvement \u2013 World Bank \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The World Bank Country Director, Pierre Franke Laporte, has acknowledged recent positive signs amid Ghana\u2019s economic recovery path.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the Ghanaian economy has reached a point where it can be described as having \u201cturned the corner\u201d, a similar assertion made by the Finance Minister,\u00a0Ken Ofori-Atta.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during an interview on JoyNews\u2019 PM Express Business Edition, Pierre Laporte said, \u201cWhen you look at where Ghana\u2019s economy was a year or two years ago and you look at the macro-economic numbers now, like inflation, you may come to accept that things have improved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He, however, pointed that more efforts and measures need to be expedited to ensure that the marginal economic stability is properly sustained while calling on government to adopt key strategies to achieve this stability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still see the election year as one of the biggest threats to the marginal stability that we are witnessing. We have to do a lot to ensure that fiscal discipline is maintained,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The World Bank Country Director further suggested that if Ghana had implemented certain reforms much earlier, the economic situation would have been better than what it is at the present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the reforms should have been early enough to deal, with the challenges with the economy then,\u201d Laporte said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Ghana\u2019s economy is currently under an IMF programme for the 17th time.
