{"id":134101,"date":"2023-12-22T12:32:25","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T12:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/22\/scourt-opened-new-legal-window-for-my-release-nnamdi-kanu\/"},"modified":"2023-12-22T12:32:25","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T12:32:25","slug":"scourt-opened-new-legal-window-for-my-release-nnamdi-kanu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/22\/scourt-opened-new-legal-window-for-my-release-nnamdi-kanu\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018S&#8217;Court Opened New Legal Window For My Release&#8217; \u2014 Nnamdi Kanu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-836473\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/nnamdi-kanu-vehemently-denied-being-an-ipob-member-in-court-fgs-counsel-video.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"420\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has averred that the recent Supreme Court judgement on his case, opened a new legal window for his release.<\/p>\n<p>The detained leader disclosed this during his routine meeting with his legal team, led by his special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and Barrister Nnaemeka, at the Abuja facility of the Department of State Services (DSS).<\/p>\n<p>He, again expressed disappointment with the judgement.<\/p>\n<p>In a post via X on Thursday, Ejimakor wrote: \u201cUPDATE: I met with #MNK today (Thursday) in tow with Barr Nnaemeka.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnyendu expressed his profound disappointment with the Supreme Court judgment but he believes that aspects of the judgement have opened a new legal window to pursue his release. He asked all and sundry to remain confident.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: Police Nab Simon Ekpa\u2019s IPOB Commander Terrorising Imo Residents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recall that the Supreme Court declined an appeal to release the embattled IPOB leader from detention.<\/p>\n<p>In its judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim but written by Justice Garba Lawal, the Supreme Court upturned the Appeal Court ruling that discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges in October 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court held that although the Nigerian government recklessly and unlawfully rendered Kanu from Kenya, such an unlawful act has not divested any court from proceeding with trial.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Lawal held that no Nigerian law was cited in the suit seeking Kanu\u2019s release from unlawful abduction from Kenya.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div data-advadstrackid=\"890536\" data-advadstrackbid=\"1\" class=\"infor-target\" id=\"infor-1087775395\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/300x250b.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has averred that the recent Supreme Court judgement on his case, opened a new legal window for his release.
