The\u00a0Ghana Gas\u00a0Senior Staff Association (GGSSA) is concerned that non-payment by the\u00a0<\/strong>Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) releases fresh Dumsor timetable\u00a0(ECG) to major stakeholders in the energy sector poses a potential threat to the sector.<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Association said the repercussions of the situation are \u201cfar-reaching and could potentially disrupt the delicate balance within the energy sector\u201d.<\/p>\n
This concern was expressed in a statement issued by the Association on Wednesday, December 20.<\/p>\n
Signed by its Chairman, Richmond Kabiru Alamu, the statement called on the country\u2019s\u00a0major power distribution company to make immediate payment due, particularly, to\u00a0Ghana\u00a0Gas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe energy sector, a vital component of Ghana\u2019s economic growth, is now at risk of disruption,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe inability to settle financial obligations not only hampers Ghana Gas\u2019s ability to maintain infrastructure and operations but also reverberates through the entire energy supply chain, affecting stakeholders and service providers alike.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the Association, the\u00a0International Monetary Fund\u00a0(IMF) directed timely payments to state-owned enterprises as part of international best practice.<\/p>\n
It said President\u00a0Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo\u00a0and\u00a0Vice President\u00a0Dr Mahamudu Bawumia\u00a0also made a similar call.<\/p>\n
\u201cDespite these directives, ECG\u2019s non-compliance persists, leading to a situation where critical entities like Ghana Gas are left in financial limbo, struggling to fulfill their obligations and maintain operational efficiency.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement later insisted: \u201cAdherence to IMF conditionality and\u00a0presidential\u00a0directives is crucial for maintaining financial stability and ensuring the seamless functioning of critical entities within the energy sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government and relevant authorities must address this issue promptly to mitigate the potential economic fallout and uphold Ghana\u2019s reputation as a responsible and stable investment destination.\u201d<\/p>\n
