{"id":130916,"date":"2023-12-14T05:14:40","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T05:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/14\/ruto-directs-energy-ministry-to-end-national-power-blackouts\/"},"modified":"2023-12-14T05:14:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-14T05:14:40","slug":"ruto-directs-energy-ministry-to-end-national-power-blackouts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/14\/ruto-directs-energy-ministry-to-end-national-power-blackouts\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruto Directs Energy Ministry To End National Power Blackouts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"brxe-zmhdqk\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-304459\" alt=\"\" width=\"917\" height=\"579\"  data-lazy- src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/cabinet.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-304459\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/cabinet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"917\" height=\"579\"  \/>The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Energy to end power outages in the country.<\/p>\n<p>President William Ruto, who chaired the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, said frequent power failure was hurting Kenya\u2019s investment profile and the public.<\/p>\n<p>It resolved that the transmission line system should be unbundled.<\/p>\n<p>The move, which involves the separation of generation, transmission and distribution of power, will ensure that the entire country is not thrown into darkness if a line fails.<\/p>\n<p>To deal with the overloading of transmission lines that causes outages, the Cabinet noted that the Bomet-Narok line will be constructed.<\/p>\n<p>Funded in 2016, the line has not been built due to legal disputes.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the \u20ac1.2 billion (Sh200 billion) KenGen solar power project at the Seven Forks Dam will serve as a safeguard against power failure. The 42MW project incorporates substantial battery storage, and in the event of a power failure, the stored energy is activated.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the project contributes to preserving hydro-power at the five dams comprising the Seven Forks.<\/p>\n<p>The Cabinet was also informed that negotiations on the Kenya-European Union Economic Partnership Agreement had been completed.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement, giving Kenya more access to the European Union market, is expected to be signed at State House next week.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Energy to end power outages in the country.
