{"id":130555,"date":"2023-12-13T09:47:09","date_gmt":"2023-12-13T09:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/13\/group-issues-igp-24-hour-ultimatum-to-arrest-prosecute-27-lawmakers\/"},"modified":"2023-12-13T09:47:09","modified_gmt":"2023-12-13T09:47:09","slug":"group-issues-igp-24-hour-ultimatum-to-arrest-prosecute-27-lawmakers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/13\/group-issues-igp-24-hour-ultimatum-to-arrest-prosecute-27-lawmakers\/","title":{"rendered":"Group Issues IGP 24-hour Ultimatum To Arrest, Prosecute 27 Lawmakers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, has been issued 24 hours to arrest and prosecute the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly for defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered that a civil society organization, identified as Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy, disclosed that those who defected are no longer members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, hence should be arrested and prosecuted.<\/p>\n<p>In an open letter addressed to the IGP, signed by its legal Adviser, Kalu Kalu Agu, on Tuesday, insisted that the lawmakers committed an offence of conspiracy and treasonable felony with their actions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0APC, LP React To 27 Rivers PDP Lawmakers Jumping Ship<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The letter partly reads:\u00a0\u201cArising from our commitment to our core objective we hereby demand for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the twenty-seven (27) former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly that defected to APC for the offences of:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConspiracy to commit treasonable felony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur findings reveal the following facts as reasonable grounds to suspect that the said twenty-seven former members of the House of Assembly should be prosecuted of the offences:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe said 27 former members are still parading themselves as members of the said House of Assembly when they are no longer members by virtue of express provisions of the 1999 Constitution and decided cases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe said 27 former members, being ordinary citizens, and no longer entitled to sit in the hallowed chambers of the House of Assembly created by the 1999 Constitution are still holding deliberations as such members with the intent, by their decisions and conduct, is to enter the chambers of the House and conduct proceedings with a view to passing resolutions on the affairs of the Government of Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn view of the foregoing, we hereby demand that you initiate, and overtly do so, the arrest and prosecution of the said 27 people within 24 hours from the receipt of this letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake notice that if you fail to heed the demand herein made within twenty-four hours of the receipt of this letter, we shall take appropriate action to ensure that the 27 suspects are prosecuted in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-12\">\n<p>\u201cWe do hope wise counsel will prevail.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div data-advadstrackid=\"890536\" data-advadstrackbid=\"1\" class=\"infor-target\" id=\"infor-1806353769\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/300x250b.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, has been issued 24 hours to arrest and prosecute the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly for defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
