{"id":129931,"date":"2023-12-11T19:30:40","date_gmt":"2023-12-11T19:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/11\/27-rivers-pdp-lawmakers-loyal-to-wike-defect-to-apc\/"},"modified":"2023-12-11T19:30:40","modified_gmt":"2023-12-11T19:30:40","slug":"27-rivers-pdp-lawmakers-loyal-to-wike-defect-to-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/11\/27-rivers-pdp-lawmakers-loyal-to-wike-defect-to-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"27 Rivers PDP Lawmakers Loyal To Wike Defect To APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-792259\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/amid-the-widespread-endsars-protests-witnessed-across-the-country-oyigbo-police-station-in-rivers-st.jpeg\" alt=\"Oyigbo police station in Rivers state set on fire\" width=\"739\" height=\"415\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Twenty-seven members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers who are said to be loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, held a plenary session at about 8 a.m. on Monday where the decision was taken amid tight security at the entrance of the assembly complex in Port Harcourt, the State capital.<\/p>\n<p>According to the legislators, division within the PDP is the reason for their exit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: Rivers Power Tussle: \u2018I Won\u2019t Surrender My Mandate Despite Intimidation\u2019 \u2013 Gov Fubara<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Information Nigeria understands that defection of the lawmakers is suspected to be connected to the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers and Wike, his predecessor, over control of the political structure in the State.<\/p>\n<p>During a recent quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt, the Governor said he would not \u201csurrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail and deliberate sabotage.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When he spoke on the crisis in the State in November, Wike said he would do all it takes to maintain his \u201cpolitical structure\u201d in Rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Wike had said,\u201d I don\u2019t like ingrates. I can\u2019t stand it.
