We as a group failed all together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking before the game about his starting XI, Ten Hag had revealed: \u201cSergio came in for Victor [against Chelsea] and did very good and Hojlund, he played a lot of games, many games to play as well, but also to give Anthony Martial the opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe played very good against Everton, less good against Newcastle, but he has to prove it every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martial is into his ninth season as a Man Utd player but his importance has waned dramatically since a 17-goal Premier League campaign back in 2019\/20.<\/p>\n<p>Man Utd\u00a0missed the chance to jump above Tottenham and up to fifth in the Premier League with their fourth league loss at Old Trafford this season \u2013 only Crystal Palace, Everton, Sheffield United and Burnley have been defeated at home more often so far in 2023\/24.<\/p>\n<p>Ten Hag will have to deal with the absence of Bruno Fernandes in United\u2019s next league game\u00a0due to suspension, but first they have a crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday as they look to rescue a last-16 place.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"vp3oNuufFew\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"UEFA Champions League Matchday 3 | #sportsgist #shorts #ucl #football\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vp3oNuufFew?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 1 --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Erik ten Hag defended Anthony Martial after the French forward was jeered by Manchester United fans upon his substitution in the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.
