{"id":128208,"date":"2023-12-06T16:27:46","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T16:27:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/06\/nigeriall-have-largest-electric-mass-transit-fleet-in-africa-fg\/"},"modified":"2023-12-06T16:27:46","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T16:27:46","slug":"nigeriall-have-largest-electric-mass-transit-fleet-in-africa-fg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/06\/nigeriall-have-largest-electric-mass-transit-fleet-in-africa-fg\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria&#8217;ll Have Largest Electric Mass Transit Fleet In Africa \u2014 FG"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-892720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Screenshot_20230916-043223_Opera-Mini.jpg\" alt=\"Yusuf Tuggar\" width=\"1029\" height=\"692\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, says Nigeria will soon have the largest electric mass transit fleet in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister made this known at the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>Tuggar, according to a statement on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, underscored the urgent need for concerted global action to address the challenges of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>He said Nigeria is leading the fight against climate change in Africa by setting ambitious and realistic goals.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the country aims to have the largest electric mass transit fleet in Africa and increase electric buses \u201cfrom 100 to 1,000.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria has ratified its commitments through a Climate Change Act and a National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough these, Nigeria set ambitious, albeit realistic, goals, and I am proud to state that we have hit the ground running, transforming our commitments into tangible climate action,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>While emphasising the critical role of collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility in combating the escalating climate crisis, he said: \u201cThe initiative will reduce emissions and indicate my administration\u2019s commitment to catalysing the market for green project deployments, job creation, and industrialisation across critical sectors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: Nigerian Air Force Puts Up Presidential Aircraft For Sale<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Acknowledging the severity of the climate emergency, Tuggar highlighted the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities and ecosystems across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>He posited that it was important to uphold the principles outlined in the Paris Agreement, and the need for all nations to commit to ambitious and transparent climate targets.<\/p>\n<p>Tuggar also reaffirmed the commitment of Nigeria to its nationally determined contributions, underscoring the nation\u2019s dedication to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the country is willing to foster international cooperation, encourage innovation, and secure a sustainable future for generations to come.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore called upon the international community to transcend political differences and work collaboratively towards meaningful and immediate climate solutions.<\/p>\n<p>Tuggar added that there was a need for financial commitments from developed nations to assist developing countries in their transition to low-carbon economies.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-7\" style=\"margin: 8px auto; text-align: center; display: block; clear: both;\">\n<div data-advadstrackid=\"890536\" data-advadstrackbid=\"1\" class=\"infor-target\" id=\"infor-174925156\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/300x250b.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, says Nigeria will soon have the largest electric mass transit fleet in Africa.
