{"id":127364,"date":"2023-12-04T18:11:53","date_gmt":"2023-12-04T18:11:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/04\/local-industries-struggling-for-markets-because-of-cheap-inferior-goods-agi\/"},"modified":"2023-12-04T18:11:53","modified_gmt":"2023-12-04T18:11:53","slug":"local-industries-struggling-for-markets-because-of-cheap-inferior-goods-agi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/04\/local-industries-struggling-for-markets-because-of-cheap-inferior-goods-agi\/","title":{"rendered":"Local industries struggling for markets because of cheap, inferior goods \u2013 AGI \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The influx of cheap, inferior goods on the Ghanaian market remains a major challenge for local manufacturing companies in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on this canker that keeps rearing its head up in the business community, the Chief Executive of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Seth Twum-Akwaboah, bemoaned the rate at which local industries struggle to get markets for their goods despite producing so much to meet the local demand.<\/p>\n<p>He squashed claims that industries were lazy and not trying their best to be competitive on the market.<\/p>\n<p>Making this known on Joy News\u2019 PM Express and monitored by GhanaWeb Business, Mr Twum-Akwaboah indicated that local businesses were being affected by the flooding of cheap, inferior goods.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cdata on the ground doesn\u2019t support the argument that industries are being lazy and don\u2019t want to play in a very competitive environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have one local industry that is producing so much, but struggle to get market for their goods, because some cheap, and inferior goods have flooded the market and that is affecting them,\u201d the AGI CEO stated.<\/p>\n<p>Seth Twum-Akwaboah\u2019s comment comes on the back of the proposed legislative instrument on the importation of 22 selected strategic products.<\/p>\n<p>The import restriction bill on the 22 commodities aims at developing the country and encourage local production.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Below are the list of 22 items considered for import restriction:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rice<br \/>Guts, bladders and stomachs of animals<br \/>Poultry<br \/>Animal and vegetable oil<br \/>Margarine<br \/>Fruit juices<br \/>Soft drink<br \/>Mineral water<br \/>Noodles and pasta<br \/>Ceramic tiles<br \/>Corrugated paper and paper board<br \/>Mosquito coil and insecticides<br \/>Soaps and detergents<br \/>Motor cars<br \/>Iron and steel<br \/>Cement<br \/>Polymers (Plastics and Plastic Products)<br \/>Fish<br \/>Sugar<br \/>Clothing and apparel<br \/>Biscuits<br \/>Canned tomatoes<\/p>\n<p>SA\/MA<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:\u00a0<\/strong>www.ghanaweb.com<\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 1 --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The influx of cheap, inferior goods on the Ghanaian market remains a major challenge for local manufacturing companies in Ghana.
