former governor of Enugu State, Chimaroke Nnamani, has explained why he is pitching his tent with the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, for the 2023 general election.

Nnamani said the Peoples Democratic Party breached its constitution and disallowed the South the opportunity to run for presidency.

The former governor stated that the PDP constitution specifies that key political offices be rotated between the North and South to ensure equity, justice and fairness.

The PUNCH reported barely a week ago how the Enugu lawmaker was suspended by the PDP alongside other party chieftains in Ekiti and Imo states over alleged anti-party activities.

A statement by the lawmaker on Sunday, and made available to journalists in Abuja, read, “Conscious of the need to share and rotate key political offices among the diverse people of our country, the PDP constitution clearly stated that it shall adhere at all times to the policy of the rotation and zoning of the party and public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.

“Even when the PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu made a firm commitment to step down should a northerner emerge the presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, the leadership jettisoned the constitutional provision and turned the logic upside down.”

The lawmaker recalled that “the PDP in 2019 allowed the North to contest the primary for the presidency in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in which Atiku Abubakar clinched the ticket and contested the election.

Commenting further, he pointed out that it was expected that in 2023, the PDP in a corresponding manner would allow the South to contest for the apex position.

Over 60 dead, mostly police in Pakistan mosque blast

<img decoding="async" killed in a blast at a mosque inside a highly sensitive Pakistan police headquarters on Monday, prompting the government to put the country on high alert.

The attack happened during afternoon worship in the provincial capital of Peshawar, close to former tribal areas along the Afghan border where militancy has been steadily rising.

A frantic rescue mission was underway overnight at the mosque, which had an entire wall and some of its roof blown out by the possible suicide attack.

“Many policemen are buried under the rubble,” said Peshawar police chief Muhammad Ijaz Khan, who estimated between 300 and 400 officers usually attended prayers.

“Efforts are being made to get them out safely,” he added.

Bloodied survivors emerged limping from the wreckage, while bodies were ferried away in ambulances.

“It’s an emergency situation,” Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesman for the main hospital in Peshawar, told AFP.

The death toll continued to rise as more bodies were pulled from the debris, rising to 61 killed with more than 150 wounded.

As darkness fell, several men were still trapped in the wreckage, visible through cracks in the concrete.

“We have given them oxygen so that they don’t have problems in breathing,” said Bilal Ahmad Faizi, a spokesperson for the rescue organisation 1122.

At least 20 of the killed police officers were later buried after a prayer ceremony with coffins lined up in rows and draped in the Pakistani flag.

They were laid to rest with a guard of honour, a police official told AFP.

Actor, Junior Pope, narrates encounter with highway robbers<img decoding="async" Took footwear, production shoes, my bags with my passport in one of them and personal belongings. My Permanent Voters Card, my ID card and lots of things.”

Odonwodo said he had sighted the roadblock set up by the robbers from a distance. However, when he tried to reverse his car, he ended up hitting a colleague, Emma Umeh, who was driving behind him.

Afterwards, the armed robbers came out from the bushes flanking the road, asked them to lay down, and ransacked the vehicle.

“When they asked us to drive away, we drove.
