{"id":126676,"date":"2023-12-02T18:13:04","date_gmt":"2023-12-02T18:13:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/02\/nigeria-signs-agreement-with-germany-to-improve-power-supply-in-three-years\/"},"modified":"2023-12-02T18:13:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-02T18:13:04","slug":"nigeria-signs-agreement-with-germany-to-improve-power-supply-in-three-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/02\/nigeria-signs-agreement-with-germany-to-improve-power-supply-in-three-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria Signs Agreement With Germany To Improve Power Supply In Three Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_901685\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-901685\" style=\"width: 946px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-901685\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Screenshot_20231202-060943_Opera-Mini.jpg\" alt=\"Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power\" width=\"946\" height=\"897\"  \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-901685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed an agreement with Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, to improve Nigeria\u2019s grid capacity and improve electricity supply in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement aimed at accelerating the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) signed on Friday by Kenny Anuwe, Chief Executive Officer of FGN Power Company, and Nadja Haakansson, Siemens Energy managing director for Africa, on the sidelines of the ongoing COP28 in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>The PPI project agreement was first entered in 2019 and was to be implemented in three phases including delivering an additional 2 gigawatt (GW) to the grid to achieve improved grid stability and reliability; bringing the system\u2019s operational capacity to about 11GW, while also increasing the system\u2019s capacity to 25GW.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to journalists after the signing, Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, said the agreement will see to the end-to-end modernisation and expansion of Nigeria\u2019s electric power transmission grid.<\/p>\n<p>According to Adelabu, different factors including COVID-19 had affected the progress of the project after its initial signing in 2019 but that Nigeria is now ready to proceed and deliver.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: Man Grateful As He, His Wife Survive Accident Without Scratch After Fuel Tanker Fell On His Car<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said Siemens Energy has already supplied the necessary equipment needed to execute the project and within 12 to 24 months the government will expand the grid capacity from 6,000 to 8,000 megawatts (MW), with hopes to get to 12,000MW in three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project is to be financed by Nigeria\u2019s export credit facilities that are being provided by a couple of German banks to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs it is, I might be able to say how much it is going to cost the country, the original agreement we had was for $2.3 billion but what we have executed to date is just in the region of $60 million which has to do with the importation of the 10 transformers and the 10 power substations which Siemens have delivered to the country. They have been commissioned and we are in the process of installation of these transformers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe project is in phases, we have the short-term phase, we have the medium term and we have the long-term phase.
