{"id":126554,"date":"2023-12-02T14:04:23","date_gmt":"2023-12-02T14:04:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/02\/smart-solutions-needed-for-sustainable-food-security-in-24-hour-economy-mahama-to-farmers\/"},"modified":"2023-12-02T14:04:23","modified_gmt":"2023-12-02T14:04:23","slug":"smart-solutions-needed-for-sustainable-food-security-in-24-hour-economy-mahama-to-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/12\/02\/smart-solutions-needed-for-sustainable-food-security-in-24-hour-economy-mahama-to-farmers\/","title":{"rendered":"Smart solutions needed for sustainable food security in 24-hour economy \u2013 Mahama to farmers \u2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former President John Mahama has said Ghana needs smart solutions to ensure sustainable food security in a 24-hour economy.<\/p>\n<p>In a message on Farmers\u2019 Day \u2013 Friday, 1 December 2023 \u2013 Mr Mahama said: \u201cAs we celebrate our farmers today, we must acknowledge the need for smart solutions within a 24-hour economy to ensure sustainable food security for our nation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is \u201cdedicated to bringing back the joy of farming and revolutionizing the agricultural sector\u201d, adding: \u201cWe aim to achieve food self-sufficiency through a policy that supports large-scale commercial agricultural production\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC flagbearer explained: \u201cThis will be propelled by a robust cooperative system that will benefit from farmers\u2019 service centres established nationwide to drive access to agricultural credit and inputs\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Mr Mahama said: \u201cWe will introduce agro-processing units in all regions to add value to our agricultural products and create more opportunities for all farmers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that \u201cestablishing agricultural processing plants will target crops such as palm, cashew, groundnuts, cotton, coffee, cocoa, soya, cassava, shea nuts, cereals, ginger, spices, cut flowers, fruits, and horticultural products\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s farmers\u2019 day is themed, \u2018Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable Food Security and Resilience\u2019, which Mr Mahama said: \u201chighlights the importance of innovation and resilience in agriculture\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Mahama assured farmers that the next NDC government will \u201cprioritize their welfare and work tirelessly to ensure they have the necessary resources and support to thrive\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur farmers are the backbone of our economy, and we will continue to invest in their success\u201d, he said, saying: \u201cI extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Ghanaian farmers on this special day\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source:\u00a0<\/strong>classfmonline.com<\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 1 --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President John Mahama has said Ghana needs smart solutions to ensure sustainable food security in a 24-hour economy.
