{"id":125841,"date":"2023-11-30T13:10:45","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T13:10:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/30\/angry-mob-attack-inec-headquarters\/"},"modified":"2023-11-30T13:10:45","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T13:10:45","slug":"angry-mob-attack-inec-headquarters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/30\/angry-mob-attack-inec-headquarters\/","title":{"rendered":"Angry Mob Attack INEC Headquarters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>An angry mob on Wednesday, attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, located in Lokoja, Kogi State.<\/p>\n<p>Confirming the incident in a statement released yesterday, titled: \u201cSiege on the INEC State Headquarters in Lokoja,\u201d\u00a0the state\u2019s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Hale Longpet, said that the mob barricaded all entrances to the office and stopped staff from carrying out routine duties.<\/p>\n<p>Hale\u00a0added that the timely intervention of military officers calmed the situation.<\/p>\n<p>He said:\u00a0\u201cThe Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kogi State wishes to inform the public that the State Headquarters in Lokoja was besieged this morning by a mob that barricaded all entrances to the office and prevented access to staff to carry out routine duties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Kogi Guber: \u201cI Have Lost Complete Confidence In Judiciary\u201d \u2013 Dino Melaye<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe siege also prevented attorneys representing political parties involved in the recent off-cycle governorship election from inspecting documents\/materials used in the election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt took the intervention of the Nigerian Army to calm the situation down at the State Headquarters. The security agencies have assured us that they will maintain normalcy on our premises.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe assure all parties and litigants that the Kogi State office is committed to granting unimpeded access to all materials needed to prosecute their petitions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the\u00a0commission on November 12 declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo, as the winner of the election after he polled 446,237 votes to defeat his SDP rival, Murtala Ajaka, who garnered 259,052 votes in the exercise.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An angry mob on Wednesday, attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, located in Lokoja, Kogi State.
