{"id":125592,"date":"2023-11-30T03:59:52","date_gmt":"2023-11-30T03:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/30\/one-killed-in-fresh-kano-protest-over-appeal-court-judgement\/"},"modified":"2023-11-30T03:59:52","modified_gmt":"2023-11-30T03:59:52","slug":"one-killed-in-fresh-kano-protest-over-appeal-court-judgement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/30\/one-killed-in-fresh-kano-protest-over-appeal-court-judgement\/","title":{"rendered":"One Killed In Fresh Kano Protest Over Appeal Court Judgement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>One person has been confirmed dead in a protest that stormed Kano State over an Appeal Court verdict sacking Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP).<\/p>\n<p>Recall that two weeks ago, the Court upheld the decision of the tribunal, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay, which had initially dismissed Yusuf on September 20, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal invalidated 165,663 votes for Yusuf, the candidate of NNPP, citing lack of proper authorization by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0Appeal Court Verdict: NNPP Women Supporters Storm Kano Police Headquarters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the court\u2019s verdict, security forces thwarted some planned demonstrations to maintain order.<\/p>\n<p>Despite police\u2019s warnings, protests resumed, with demonstrators voicing their support for Yusuf and demanding justice.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, on Wednesday, protesters gathered in some locations across the state with placards having inscriptions like \u2018Our mandate must restored\u2019, \u2018Kano voted for Abba\u2019, injustice exposed in CTC\u2019, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased, identified as Salisu Rabiu, known as a footballer is one of the persons shot by policemen dispersing protesters.<\/p>\n<p>It was gathered policemen were seen standing at various entrances of the state, as protesters blocked the road linking to Katsina State, preventing commuters from traveling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One person has been confirmed dead in a protest that stormed Kano State over an Appeal Court verdict sacking Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP).
