The group stage of the 2023-24 edition of the Champions League is approaching its climax, with Matchday 6 starting on December 12.<\/p>\n

Holders Manchester City have qualified for the knockout rounds after winning five games out of five \u2014 and last season\u2019s top scorer Erling Haaland netted his 40th goal in the competition during the 3-2 comeback win over RB Leipzig at the Etihad.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is the fastest player to reach the milestone, achieving the feat in just 35 games.<\/p>\n

As such, we take a look at where the Norwegian striker ranks in terms of goals-per-game on the European stage.<\/p>\n

10. Neymar (43 goals) \u2014 0.53 per game<\/h2>\n

The most expensive footballer in history lit up the Champions League with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, before joining Saudi side Al-Hilal this summer.<\/p>\n

Neymar propelled the Catalan outfit to European glory in 2014-15, scoring 10 goals in 12 games \u2014 with seven of them coming from the quarter-finals onwards.<\/p>\n

Filippo Inzaghi is a two-time Champions League winner and was the second-highest scorer in the 2002-03 edition with 10 goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Italian was also voted Man of the Match in the 2007 final after netting twice in AC Milan\u2019s 2-1 victory over Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Kylian Mbappe first made his name in the Champions League with Monaco, scoring six goals in nine games as the French side reached the 2016-17 semi-finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old has continued delivering the goods at PSG, scoring in this season\u2019s home wins over Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, as well as bagging a dramatic late equaliser against Newcastle at the Parc des Princes.<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old\u2019s haul of 17 goals in 2013-14 \u2014 when Real Madrid won La Decima \u2014 is still the most ever by a player in a single campaign.<\/p>\n
