{"id":123785,"date":"2023-11-26T08:05:04","date_gmt":"2023-11-26T08:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/26\/recent-court-verdicts-on-election-cases-questionable-show-compromise-atikus-aide-ibe\/"},"modified":"2023-11-26T08:05:04","modified_gmt":"2023-11-26T08:05:04","slug":"recent-court-verdicts-on-election-cases-questionable-show-compromise-atikus-aide-ibe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/26\/recent-court-verdicts-on-election-cases-questionable-show-compromise-atikus-aide-ibe\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent Court Verdicts On Election Cases Questionable, Show Compromise \u2014 Atiku&#8217;s Aide, Ibe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_711207\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-711207\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-711207\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Paul-Ibe-e1548088058906.jpg\" alt=\"Paul Ibe\" width=\"599\" height=\"400\"  \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-711207\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paul Ibe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Media Adviser to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has criticised recent court judgments on election petitions sacking members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n<p>Ibe, in a statement on Monday, said democracy in Nigeria is in a state of \u201cill health\u201d due to the \u201ccompromise\u201d of the judiciary in deciding electoral cases.<\/p>\n<p>He further faulted the judgments of the election tribunal and Appeal Court removing PDP Senators, House of Representatives members in Plateau and Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly and suddenly, we have seen a trend whereby the range of opposition engagement continues to be narrowed by the ruling party in Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Ibe alleged that the election petition tribunal and appellate courts are favouring and \u201cdoing the bidding\u201d of the ruling All Progressives Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has become increasingly apparent that the democracy in Nigeria is in a state of ill health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ ALSO: Appeal Court Judgement A Good Omen For Plateau Residents \u2014 Lalong<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gets more curious that all the states where the courts have made controversial declarations are states being controlled by the opposition political parties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom Nassarawa, Kano, Zamfara and now to Plateau State where we are witnessing a situation in which what the ruling party missed out on Election Day is being delivered to them through the courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are clearly ominous signs that threaten not just our faith in the electoral and judicial system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Justice Dattijo Muhammad said in his valedictory speech which has also been buttressed by Olumide Akpata, the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association, the judgments emanating from courts in recent times have been questionable and show obvious compromise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) put it recently, the judiciary under military dictatorship was much more courageous and had better integrity than what we have today,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Ibe averred that many of the court rulings are \u201cjudgments but not justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paul Ibe Media Adviser to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has criticised recent court judgments on election petitions sacking members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
