Ghanaian Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, on Tuesday, apologised to Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, for comparing him with the country\u2019s vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia, describing them as poor performers, BBC Africa reports Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Adongo had, in 2022, criticized the VP for the country\u2019s poor economic performance.<\/p>\n
He likened the VP to what he described as Maguire\u2019s poor performance as a player who scores own goals.<\/p>\n
However, on Tuesday, during a budget debate in the parliament house, Adongo said Maguire had now become a \u201ctransformational footballer,\u201d while adding that the VP now \u201croams at the IMF with a cup in hand.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adongo said, \u201cMr. Speaker, I now apologise to Harry Maguire. Today, Harry Maguire has turned the corner and he is a transformational footballer.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Harry Maguire] is now a key player for Manchester but as for our Maguire [Mr Bawumia] he is now roaming at the IMF with a cup in hand,\u201d the MP added.<\/p>\n
He criticised Bawumia\u2019s performance as vice-president and head of Ghana\u2019s Economic Management Team, which he said had driven the country more into debt and risked its economic performance.<\/p>\n
BBC Africa reports that Ghana is currently going through its worst economic crisis in a generation. Last year, the inflation rate hit a record high of 54 per cent and is still running at more than 35 per cent.<\/p>\n
