It\u2019s unclear why the man chose to plant the trees on public property, and in a median strip of all places, but they eventually got so big that they began affecting motorists\u2019 field of view. It wasn\u2019t difficult for authorities to identify the man responsible for the trees, as he had been watering the tropical plants at least twice a day for the last two years. He was ordered to remove the trees, or risk spending up to a year in jail or pay a fine of 500,000 yen ($3,350).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s lonely\u2026 I feel lonely without my beautiful bananas,\u201d the man told journalists after having to remove the three banana trees.<\/p>\n<p>The Kurume banana trees had been getting nationwide attention for weeks, and on the day of their removal, news crews from major news channels were on location. They interviewed the man who had planted them and filmed him trying to eat one of the unripe bananas harvested from them. It was too green to be edible, but the man ate it anyway.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-79971 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/gp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/kurume-banana-trees2-750x418.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"418\"\/><\/p>\n<p>How the unnamed banana enthusiast managed to remain off the radar of the police for so long, especially with his daily watering ritual, remains a mystery,<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, the banana trees have found new homes.
