At around 32 meters tall (104ft), it is not even the Asian country\u2019s tallest ginkgo tree, but the way its branches are spread out makes it one of the most visually impressive trees on Earth. In South Korea, the Bangye-ri Ginkgo Tree is often called the world\u2019s most beautiful tree.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Photo: Korea Tourism Organisation (Kim Hyeon-jin)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, South Korea\u2019s most beautiful tree reached its peak popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic, as part of what some experts called the \u201cCovid-era travel trend.\u201d Families started traveling to outdoor attractions in their own cars in order to minimize contact with strangers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the pandemic, a small number of people such as couples or families making a simple trip to outdoor spots in nature has become the trend,\u201d Professor Lee Hoon of Hanyang University\u2019s School of Tourism told the <a href=\"https:\/\/koreajoongangdaily.joins.com\/2021\/11\/18\/culture\/foodTravel\/Korean-gingko-autumn-foliage-Korea-fall-foliage-Korea\/20211118093947675.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Korea JoongAng Daily<\/a>. \u201cEspecially in cars, where they don\u2019t have to be in close contact with strangers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fdont4getthesun%2Fposts%2Fpfbid02hsYoVmvKBCTPVuRvoA8r4NkjictXzHVVvZRRZhqE2L4fso5icEb8ZuRTCsyzgZwZl&amp;width=750&amp;show_text=true&amp;appId=279842835470946&amp;height=590\" width=\"750\" height=\"590\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis village used to be quiet before the Covid-19 pandemic, but visitors tripled last year, then quadrupled this year,\u201d Chae Beom-sik, the head of Bangye-ri village, said in 2021. \u201cAn average of 4,000 people visit a day, whether it\u2019s a weekday or the weekend. There are no restaurants around, and the nearest convenience store is 1.5 kilometers away, but people swarm in for the beauty of this tree alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FTurismoCorea%2Fposts%2Fpfbid08CSGtV93eRu9bDYauRzj5hTLZewEuJqHjj7gYuYdw8vfozex5PRxBpJwu73swNoel&amp;width=750&amp;show_text=true&amp;appId=279842835470946&amp;height=641\" width=\"750\" height=\"641\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.odditycentral.com\/news\/people-are-now-praying-to-goddess-corona-in-attempt-to-stop-pandemic.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Covid-19 pandemic<\/a> may be behind us now, but the popularity of the Bangye-ri Ginkgo Tree remains high. These days, as the tree sheds its yellow foliage, creating a natural carpet dozens of meters around it, thousands of people flock to Bangye-ri to witness the magic first-hand.<\/p>\n<p>Ginkgo trees are very popular tourist attractions outside of South Korea as well.
