{"id":120657,"date":"2023-11-17T07:13:06","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T07:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/17\/removing-the-defibrillator-cost-raphael-dwamenas-life-dr-antonio-asso\/"},"modified":"2023-11-17T07:13:06","modified_gmt":"2023-11-17T07:13:06","slug":"removing-the-defibrillator-cost-raphael-dwamenas-life-dr-antonio-asso","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/11\/17\/removing-the-defibrillator-cost-raphael-dwamenas-life-dr-antonio-asso\/","title":{"rendered":"Removing the defibrillator cost Raphael Dwamena\u2019s life \u2013 Dr. Antonio Asso"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_30\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>Following the death of Black Stars star Raphael Dwamena, football fans have been left wondering why he did not follow the doctors\u2019 advice to stop playing football.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-901\" data-method=\"placement-service\"\/><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-114\" data-inserter-version=\"2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>It has also been discovered that the player removed his defibrillator, which resulted in his death on that fateful day after just 23 minutes of Albanian league play.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-909\" data-method=\"placement-service\"\/><\/p>\n<p>His personal cardiologist, Dr. Antonio Asso, has also come under fire in recent days for allowing the sportsman to remove the defibrillator that was assisting him.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-910\" data-method=\"placement-service\"\/><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-122\" data-inserter-version=\"2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Raphael Dwamena, according to Dr. Antonio, made the personal choice to have the defibrillator removed a year before his tragic demise.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-911\" data-method=\"placement-service\"\/><\/p>\n<p>He added that the defibrillator had previously saved Dwamena\u2019s life when he suffered malignant arrhythmia and that he even encouraged the player to retire from football following that episode.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe died as a result of a respectable personal decision. But if the defibrillator had not been explanted, Raphael would still be alive,\u201d Dr Asso said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-912\" data-method=\"placement-service\"\/><span id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-123\" data-inserter-version=\"2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe managed to convince him of the imperative need to implant a defibrillator to at least guarantee his life, at the same time that we advised against practicing professional sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish cardiologist added, \u201cThey told me a couple of years ago that the defibrillator had saved his life when he had a malignant arrhythmia that the device had correctly treated automatically.
