Lionel Messi has \u201cno doubt\u201d Inter Miami will secure more silverware after he extended his record for Ballon d\u2019Or wins.<\/p>\n
The 36-year-old Argentina forward was\u00a0named the world\u2019s best player for an eighth time\u00a0last month, after helping his country win the 2022 World Cup.<\/p>\n
He left Paris St-Germain\u00a0to join Miami\u00a0in July and\u00a0the MLS club won its first trophy\u00a0in August \u2013 the Leagues Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are going to continue enjoying and winning titles,\u201d said Messi.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope you accompany us as you accompanied us all these months that I\u2019ve been here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Messi was speaking before playing his first game back in Miami, a friendly against New York City to close the 2023 US season.<\/p>\n
The club celebrated Messi\u2019s achievement by branding the game the \u2018Noche d\u2019Or\u2019, holding a special ceremony on the field at DRV PNK Stadium.<\/p>\n

Miami also signed Messi\u2019s former Barcelona team-mates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba during the 2023 season and have reportedly agreed a deal for Luis Suarez, another ex-Barca player, to\u00a0arrive before the 2024 season.<\/p>\n
Before Friday\u2019s game, Miami\u2019s managing owner Jorge Mas and co-owner Jose Mas walked along a gold carpet with MLS commissioner Don Garber to address the crowd.<\/p>\n
They were joined by Messi and gold fireworks went off as he held aloft his latest Ballon d\u2019Or trophy, although he was unable to help his side avoid a 2-1 defeat.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve only been here a little while but it really feels like I\u2019ve been here a long time,\u201d added Messi, who is under contract to the end of 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank all the people of Miami, not only the ones here at the stadium, but in the city in general, for the way you have treated not only me, but also my family these last few months.<\/p>\n
