{"id":111866,"date":"2023-10-18T10:19:44","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T10:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/10\/18\/alec-baldwin-may-be-charged-again-in-fatal-rust-set-shooting\/"},"modified":"2023-10-18T10:19:44","modified_gmt":"2023-10-18T10:19:44","slug":"alec-baldwin-may-be-charged-again-in-fatal-rust-set-shooting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/10\/18\/alec-baldwin-may-be-charged-again-in-fatal-rust-set-shooting\/","title":{"rendered":"Alec Baldwin may be charged again in fatal \u2018Rust\u2019 set shooting"},"content":{"rendered":"<br><div id=\"article-text\">\n                        \n\n                        \n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A New Mexico grand jury will soon decide whether\u00a0Alec Baldwin\u00a0should once again face criminal charges over the 2021 death of \u201cRust\u201d cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAfter extensive investigation over the past several months, additional facts have come to light that we believe show Mr. Baldwin has criminal culpability in the death of Halyna Hutchins and the shooting of Joel Souza,\u201d New Mexico special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis said in a statement Tuesday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe believe the appropriate course of action is to permit a panel of New Mexico citizens to determine from here whether Mr. Baldwin should be held over for criminal trial.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">News that a new case would go to a grand jury was first reported by\u00a0NBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors said they will present the case within the next two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is unfortunate that a terrible tragedy has been turned into this misguided prosecution,\u201d Baldwin\u2019s attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, told CNN in a statement. \u201cWe will answer any charges in court.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hutchins\u00a0was killed and director Joel Souza injured when a gun held by Baldwin fired a live round during a scene rehearsal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baldwin denied pulling the trigger on the weapon in a previous interview with CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Involuntary manslaughter\u00a0charges were dropped\u00a0against Baldwin earlier this year, with the prosecutors saying in a statement at the time that they could not \u201cproceed under the current time constraints and on the facts and evidence turned over by law enforcement in its existing form\u201d due to \u201cnew facts\u201d in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Armorer\u00a0Hannah Gutierrez Reed\u00a0also faces involuntary manslaughter charges in the case. She has\u00a0pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The film\u2019s assistant director, David Halls, was identified as the person who handed the firearm to Baldwin that fateful day.
