Ghanaian actor cum politician, John Dumelo has weighed in on the drastic increase in the cost of dialysis treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Dumelo emphasized the need to include dialysis treatment in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A widely circulated image on social media revealed that the price for dialysis had surged from GHC380 to GHC765, marking a 101 percent increase.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In response to the news, John Dumeltook to Twitter, questioning why dialysis treatment isn\u2019t included in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He believes that such an addition is both necessary and achievable.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Dialysis treatment should be included under the NHIS. It can be done,\u201d he posted.<\/p>\n

Dialysis is a treatment to clean your blood when your kidneys are not able to. It helps your body remove waste and extra fluids in your blood.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It does some of the work that your kidneys did when they were healthy. A healthy, working kidney can remove fluid and waste 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n

There are 3 main types of dialysis: in-center hemodialysis, home hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis. Each type has pros and cons.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to remember that even once you choose a type of dialysis, you always have the option to change, so you don\u2019t have to feel \u201clocked in\u201d to any one type of dialysis.<\/p>\n
