{"id":103152,"date":"2023-09-26T12:43:44","date_gmt":"2023-09-26T12:43:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/09\/26\/caf-to-name-morocco-senegal-and-nigeria-benin-as-afcon\/"},"modified":"2023-09-26T12:43:44","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T12:43:44","slug":"caf-to-name-morocco-senegal-and-nigeria-benin-as-afcon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2023\/09\/26\/caf-to-name-morocco-senegal-and-nigeria-benin-as-afcon\/","title":{"rendered":"CAF to name Morocco, Senegal and Nigeria-Benin as AFCON"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/1673948599_970_z6ls40davbv3kyrm2x2l-696x392.jpg\"   alt=\"AFCON trophy\" title=\"AFCON trophy\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">AFCON trophy <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to announce the host nations for the 2025, 2027, and 2029 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.<\/p>\n<p>The unveiling of the host nations for the next three editions will be made known at the CAF Executive Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 27 in Cairo.<\/p>\n<p>These announcements have been highly anticipated for nearly a year, beginning with CAF\u2019s decision to revoke Guinea\u2019s hosting rights for the 2025 finals in October 2022.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>CAF then revealed plans to designate the hosts for the 2027 and the 2029 finals simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>However, sources say Morocco will be awarded the hosting rights of the 2025 edition, Senegal will win that of 2027, and a Nigeria and Benin joint bid will get the 2029 hosting rights.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to strip Guinea of the 2025 tournament stemmed from CAF\u2019s assessment that the nation was significantly behind in its preparations for the 24-team tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, CAF initiated a process to reopen the bidding, with plans to make a selection early in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>However, the final decision has been repeatedly postponed.<\/p>\n<p>Bids were submitted for the 2025 finals by Algeria, Morocco, Zambia, and a joint bid from Benin and Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>For the 2027 AFCON, bids came from Algeria, Botswana, Egypt, and a collaborative candidacy from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>CAF conducted thorough evaluations, including sending assessment teams to all bidding countries and appointing an independent assessor to oversee the inspections.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, the ultimate decision on the hosts rests with the CAF Executive Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The history of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in the past decade has seen various challenges and shifts, including South Africa stepping in to replace war-torn Libya in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Cameroon\u2019s readiness for the 2019 finals was questioned, leading to Egypt hosting the tournament.
