MzVee, a celebrated Ghanaian Afro-pop and R&B artist, recently shared her concerns about the significant difference in airplay given to male and female artists in the Ghanaian music industry during an interview on the “Blezz The Mic” segment of Ekwansodwoodwoo on Okay FM, hosted by Abeiku Santana. She highlighted this issue as one of the persistent challenges faced by female artists in Ghana.

“Talking about airplay, for example, we are already a lot in the industry, but we don’t get enough airplay,” MzVee said.

MzVee supported her argument by drawing comparisons with international music industries, mentioning artists such as Beyoncé and Emeli Sandé, who despite being female, receive significant airplay and support. This comparison highlights the unfortunate reality in Ghana, where female artists often face difficulties in securing the same level of exposure and recognition as their male counterparts.

MzVee’s comments have highlighted a significant issue in the Ghanaian music industry. Her insights have sparked discussions on gender equality and representation in music and entertainment. Her words serve as a call to action for industry stakeholders to address this imbalance and create a more equitable platform for female artists to showcase their talent and thrive.

Source: Benjamin Koomson/
