As activities geared towards the 2023 general elections gathers momentum, President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerians against voting politicians who would drag the country back to ‘dark ages.’

He stated this during an event organised by the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, with the theme: “Fighting corruption in Nigeria: The past, the present and the future.”

Buhari said he made sure to leave behind a legacy of ‘zero tolerance,’ for corruption, adding that he expects the next administration to follow the same light.

He declared, “I firmly believe that in order to deprive thieves the advantages from the proceeds of their crime, our anti-corruption agencies need to focus more on asset forfeiture regimes in addition to prosecution. All stolen property, both inside and outside of Nigeria, must be recovered and put to good use for the welfare of our people, and anyone found guilty of plundering would be brought to justice and sentenced to prison.

“Nigerians must vote once more to choose their leaders in the general elections in a few weeks. I implore Nigerians to vote against candidates who would return our nation to a time when corruption was the norm.

“I have left a legacy of zero-tolerance for corruption for our burgeoning youths and to every citizen when I leave office in a matter of months. In my opinion, corruption is evil and must be fiercely opposed by all Nigerians everywhere, at all times.

“We shall transform Nigeria into the country of our dreams through integrity, respect for the rule of law, due process, and sincere patriotism.”

Professor Itse Sagay, SAN, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), bemoaned the judiciary’s lack of genuine commitment to the fight against corruption.
