Tinubu Told His Ministers To Prepare To Fetch Water From A Dry Well And That Was Quite Profound -Majeed Dahiru

Majeed Dahiru, a public affairs analyst has reacted to a statement President Bola Tinubu made while addressing the 45 ministers that constitute the Federal Executive Council in a meeting held at the Council Chambers of the State House. In an interactive session on AIT News, Dahiru said Tinubu told his ministers that they had been asked to fetch water from a dry well. He said Tinubu used this metaphor as a call for the ministers to make the best use of limited resources to fulfill their responsibilities.

According to Dahiru: “There was something Tinubu said that was quite profound when he told his ministers to prepare to fetch water from a dry well and that we are not going to borrow money. If you tie these two statements together it means we don’t have money now, but as ministers out of a country of 200 million people you are privileged to be among the 45 that were selected to exercise the delegated authority of Mr. President, however, it places a responsibility on you to use your head and character to squeeze water out of stone by fetching water from a dry well and that is actually the responsibility of the government.

Speaking further, Dahiru said “Tinubu was trying to tell them that you are in a position to perform magic and I will monitor you to ensure that you perform this magic and it is quite heartwarming that for now, we have a policy in place to halt borrowing. Anybody who tells you that the government must borrow as a matter of necessity is not being honest. Endless borrowing will result in endless sorrowing so this is a right step in the right direction”.
