It is not the Asiwaju Tinubu that we know, politics played out in appointing ministers–Salihu Lukman

The recent choice of ministerial nominees by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come under criticism from Mallam Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressive Congress (APC). Lukman has voiced his concerns, suggesting that Tinubu has undergone a change from his previous self.

During an interview on the Channels Television program “Politics Today,” Lukman stated that the selection of ministerial nominees appeared to lack thoughtful consideration. He indicated that the decision-making process seemed to be driven by political considerations rather than the kind of discernment that had been associated with Tinubu in the past. Lukman’s critique was in defense of an open letter he had previously written to President Tinubu, in which he expressed his view that the expectations of many Nigerians regarding the administration had been let down.

When asked to elaborate on his statement about dashed expectations, Lukman explained that he believed the President had become distracted by political concerns, which had led to a loss of momentum. He noted that the initial vigor with which the President had started his administration seemed to have waned, especially since the process of making ministerial appointments began. Lukman also expressed his dissatisfaction with the choice of nominees, asserting that the decisions appeared to be driven solely by political considerations. Lukman’s critique reflects a concern about the direction of the administration and the perceived shift in President Tinubu’s decision-making approach.

He said, “Putting all together, you can hardly say this is the thinking that goes into nominating them. I think this is just politics that has played out, which is not the Asiwaju we know.”
