Latest transfer reports suggest that Moisés Caicedo, Chelsea’s priority target could be on his way to Liverpool this summer after the Reds tabled a staggering £110m bid to Brighton and Hove Albion.
This development has enraged the entire fanbase of Chelsea, with fans angry over their club’s failure to complete a deal they’ve been negotiating for more than 3 months.
As much as this is a big disappointment for the fans, they need to understand some simple truth and facts about this deal and why this should not be seen as massive set-back.
Personally, I don’t think missing out on Caicedo for £110m is the end of the world. Based on my humble assessment, the player’s value is at around 80m.
The only thing annoying is the fact that Chelsea did not move swiftly enough on Ugarte or Caicedo and have allowed their groundwork to be gazumped.
Other than that, I believe this is closer to choosing Colwill over Gvardiol, rather than spending on Enzo. For that money, you can take gambles on three Nicolas Jacksons, without even factoring in that at least one of Santos, Ugochukwu or Hall could still be a revelation a year/two down the line.
That being said, it still looks like the deal isn’t dead and we Chelsea could go out and pay that money. But again, purely from a personal perspective, it does not look like money spent on acquiring a unicorn. Let it go.
The club can now go out and spend £50m on Romeo Lavia as well as hijack Brighton’s move for Mohammed Kudus at £35m. These two deals will total £85m, the amount they were willing to to pay for just Caicedo all these months.
