Reactions Trail Shehu Sani’s Tweet As Nigeria Allegedly Cuts Electricity Supply To Niger Republic

A few minutes ago, reactions began trailing a social media post put up by civil rights activist, and former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani in which he warned the Bola Tinubu administration not to tamper with its electricity supply to the Niger Republic.

A report by The BBC on Wednesday, August 2, indicates that the Tinubu-led Federal Government of Nigeria, in the bid to pressure the military coupists in Niger Republic to vacate power, have begun cutting power supplies to the french-speaking country.

It was gathered that the electricity blackouts being experienced in several parts of Niger is part of the sanctions being imposed on the country by the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) which is chaired by Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, in a tweet posted on his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday afternoon, Sani described the move as ‘political blackmail, while warning the federal government against the use of such strongarm tactics in dealing with the delicate situation in the Niger Republic.

Going further, Sani urged the Tinubu-led ECOWAS to allow the people of Niger Republic to sort out the problems internally without any outside interference.

As expected, Sani’s remarks have begun garnering quite a large volume of mixed reactions from a cross-section of Nigerians online.

While some persons concurred with his submission on the need for Nigeria not to interfere with the coup in Niger, others, however, argued against it.
