I Advise Tinubu Not To Rush Because There Are A Lot Of Booby Traps Set For Him—Hakeem Baba-Ahmed

During an interview with Arise News, Haleem Baba-Ahmed, an economist and retired federal permanent secretary, advised the president not to rush into making his decisions because there are a lot of booby traps set for him. He added that the debt burden of the country is one that is enough to make people worry.

He further stated that the president has 4 years to run his administration, adding that it doesn’t make sense when he’s borrowing money while gathering money from the abolition of the fuel subsidy. He added that the president did not put things in place before removing the subsidy and, as such, made people suffer.

According to him, “I’m a bit worried that people tend to assume that it is a done deal. It isn’t. If we’re making so much money now because we’re not paying subsidies, that means there’s a lot more money coming into the federal kitchen, the National coffers. Then we have to ask whether we really do need to go out cap in hand to beg for those N500 billions. When you look at the total debt burden of this country and ask questions about what we use it for, you really have to worry. My advice if I were advising the president would be to say, Don’t run, and don’t rush. Don’t rush into these kinds of booby traps. There are a lot of booby traps, and it looks as if there’s some level of haste in making an impact.”
