In the wake of the bitter faceoff between Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme and the management of the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Ude has revealed that the Soludo administration has taken up special interest on the 19-year-old student after she confessed to forging her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME) result.
Speaking during an interview on Africa Independent Television’s ‘Kaakaki’ program on Monday morning, Prof Chuma-Ude, who was a member of the Committee of Inquiry set up by the Anambra State Government to unravel the truth behind the conflicting examination results shown by Mmesoma and JAMB, stated that immediately Governor Soludo was told the student had confessed to the crime of forgery, he handed her over to a guidance counselor appointed by his administration.
Going further, the Commissioner of Education insisted that despite her crime, Mmesoma will not be abandoned by the Soludo administration because she has a future ahead of her.
She said; “Mr. Governor is not resting on his oars. Immediately after he got our report that Mmesoma had owned up to forging her result, he instructed that she should be handed over to a guidance counselor, and the sessions will start immediately.
We will take it up from there. We are not going to let her down. We won’t abandon her. She is our own and we won’t give up on her. There is an Igbo adage that says when you chide a child with the left hand, you draw her back with the right. We won’t throw away the baby with the bathwater. All Mmesoma needs now is our support and redirection.”
