The Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, said that he and his running mate, senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed will meet the children in the north from the point of learning the Quran and teach them skills.
Peter Obi made the statement during question and answer at Chatham House after his speech. He was asked whether he said he will fund the tertiary institution since he said he will take the children-out-of school off the road.
Peter Obi in a bid to clarify his statement asked the person who asked the question that since she is studying at Cambridge, “Did the British government run by the British government?.”
Peter Obi explained that when he talked about full funding, he is talking about basic education.
“We will ensure that basic education is free and we will drive it aggressively because we have 20 million out-of-school children in the north. Which I said I will deal with. Because those children mostly have learned Quran which means they are intelligent. We will meet them at the point of learning Quran and teach them skills.
” For the tertiary education, we will find a way to fund it in collaborative way, public partnership to ensure 4 years is 4 years not what is happening today. That is what we mean by that”
