DSS invades CBN, takes over Emefiele’s office

The operatives of the Department of State Security, DSS, have taken over the office of Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, at the headquarters of the apex bank.

The embattled CBN governor has been having a running battle with DSS over alleged terrorism financing.

Emefiele, who had been travelling for his yearly leave, had previously been the subject of a DSS request for a court order to arrest him.

However, the FCT High Court has prohibited the secret service from detaining, inviting, or arresting Emefiele in December 2022.

On Monday around noon, DSS officers in 20 armed trucks assaulted the CBN headquarters.

The agents also forbade any bank employees from entering Mr. Emefiele’s office.

The statement, which was signed by Osita Nwanisobi, Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, said, “While thanking the public for keeping faith with the Bank, we urge Nigerians to continue to support the policies of the Bank aimed at ensuring a stable financial system and the Nigerian economy in general.”
