Hertha Berlin Academy prodigy Julius Gottschalk has reportedly agreed on verbal terms with the Germans side to sign a pro contract. The 17 year old has been in talks with the club for a few months now and it’s now confirmed that a breakthrough has been made in the negotiations. He is expected to put pen to paper in the next couple of weeks as Hertha prepare to fend off interest from other clubs.
“Gottschalk has agreed to a five year deal with Hertha Berlin. According to his father, the player believes that he still has more to give to the club in the foreseeable future. He wants to ensure that he firms his roots in the Bundesliga before he sets out to join another club,” reported Fabrizio Romano.

The young attacker has been linked with Arsenal on several occasions but the rumors are now expected to die down. Earlier on, it had been hinted that the Gunners had deployed scouts to Germany to evaluate the player’s skillset and whether he would be a good fit in Arteta’s program at Arsenal. Nothing concrete was ever agreed between the player and the Emirates owners which explains why he eventually got to stay at Hertha.

My opinion
Edu Gasper and Arteta now have a clear blue print of their transfer plans for the future. Signing young players with huge potential has gotten the club far this season. The club’s also made a few signings of experienced players who have been mentors to the younger crop of players. Many fans are now confident on the transfer decisions that Arteta and Edu are making.

Gottschalk’s reason to stay at Hertha should however be taken to consideration in the near future. Arsenal currently have a packed squad which is why other players don’t think they have a chance at sneaking into the starting eleven. Arteta must be clear on who he wants to cut out from the squad before scouting for other players.
