SDP Presidential Candidate Meets Obasanjo, Says APC PDP, Confused

Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s presidential hopeful, met behind closed doors with Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday evening in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Adebayo met Obasanjo at his penthouse apartment in the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, escorted by the party’s leaders.

At their respective palaces in Abeokuta, Adebayo also had separate talks with the Alake and supreme ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and the Olubara of Ibara, Oba Jacob Omolade.

The two-hour-long meeting with Obasanjo took place behind closed doors.

Peter Obi, the nominee for the Labour Party, had received Obasanjo’s preference two weeks prior.

After the meeting, the SDP candidate told reporters that it “was more of a family visit and not political nature.”

When asked about Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi, Adebayo responded that he did not find it offensive because the former president had the right to do so.

We saw him as a (former) Head of State, he remarked. He’s from Nigeria. He has the freedom to travel with anyone because he is a free person. So, we don’t have that feeling. The election is still a while off.

“The core of democracy is changing people’s opinions via dialogue. We will still need to negotiate with Nigerians after we win the election. You still have to persuade those who are opposed to your position to join your cause. As a result, it is an ongoing exercise. We are completely problem-free.
