Azimio Wins As Police Reveals What Will Happen To Officer That Smashed Journalists’ Car

Azimio leaders and Human Rights activists have won big after the Inspector general of police Japhet Koome has revealed that the police officer spotted smashing journalists vehicle during the protests is under probe.

Speaking just hours after the Azimio leaders and Human Rights activists called for speedy investigations into the conduct of the said officer, the government has revealed that the officer in under investigations.

According to the IG of police, the officer, if found culpable, will face the law just like any other Kenyan involved in criminal activity. The officer in civilian clothes was spotted smashing smashing and breaking the Azimio media vehicle during protest on Thursday on the same day the former Prime Minister claimed of an attempted assassination.

The vehicle used by the Azimio team always plays host to the mainstream media during the demonstration coverage.

At the same time, the IG has publicly apologized to journalists who sustained injuries inflicted by police while covering protests saying it was not intentional but accidental.

This comes after the media stakeholders, led by the Kenya Editor’ s Guild President Churchill Otieno on March 31, issued a 7 day ultimatum to the Office of Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) to immediately issue a statement on the attacks that directly targeted journalist during the Azimio’ s protests.

The journalists threatened to hold nationwide protests tommorow (Wednesday) and stop covering government’ s events should Ruto’ s administration stayed quiet.

Speaking today at the Kenya School of Government, where the interviews for the new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police are ongoing, the IG further

promised that under his leadership, the media and the police would coexist to promote the common goal of serving Kenyans without any conflict.
