The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has come out to narrate how he was one of the first people in the People’s Democratic Party to pick Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi as Atiku’s Vice candidate back in 2019.
According to Governor Wike who addressed the media today in a media chat, he did not work against Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
In his own words as seen on Channels television…
In 2019, ask Peter Obi, I was one of the team that chose Peter Obi to be the vice presidential candidate to Atiku. When we met in Atiku’s house, he said these are the names and we chose Peter Obi. Peter Obi was invited to Saraki’s house that night, I was fought by people like Ekweremadu and my own friend, the governor of Ebonyi state. Every blame was on why should I be the one to chose a candidate for the South East, did Peter Obi come out to say Governor Wike was the one who supported be to be the vice presidential candidate? He didn’t say so.”
“I only told Nigerians that I would support a Southern candidacy, as someone who attended the meeting of southern governor’s in Lagos State, we agreed that whichever party you belonged to, you must support a Southern candidate. So when he says I came out against him, it’s unfortunate.”
