How Chelsea have spent over £400M on players transfer since the start of the season

If spending big in the transfer market was a true determinant of form, Chelsea will currently be cruising in the Premier league. The Blues are enjoying an extraordinary first transfer window under their new era with American billionaire Todd Boehly following the acquisition Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid. According to ESPN, the Blues have now splashed over £400 million since the start of the season, Christopher Nkunu’s reported transfer fee who is set to join the club in the summer.

The Blues have garnered a reputation for forking out big fees on transfers since their takeover by Roman Abramovich in 2003, and they broke their own record by some margin in 2020 when Frank Lampard oversaw a £220m spend on the likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Edouard Mendy. With over £400 million now spent, this is the biggest outlay from any club in the history of football.

1- Wesley Fofana

The French man who plays as a center back joined from Leicester City in the summer for a reported initial fee of £70 million.

2- Marc Cucurella

Chelsea signed the left back from Brighton for a fee reportedly worth £55 million.

3- Raheem Sterling

On 13 July 2022, Sterling signed for Chelsea on a five-year contract for a fee of £47.5 million.

4- Kalidou Koulibaly

On 16 July 2022, Koulibaly signed for Premier League club Chelsea on a four-year contract for a fee reported to be in the region of £33 million.

5- Carney Chukwuemeka

On 4 August 2022, Chelsea announced the signing of Chukwuemeka on a six-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

6- Andrey Santos

On 6 January 2023, Vasco da Gama announced that Santos had departed the club to join Premier League club Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

7- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

On 2 September 2022, Chelsea announced the signing of Aubameyang to join the club on a two-year contract from Barcelona for a reported fee of £10.3 million.

8- Denis Zakaria

On 1 September 2022, Zakaria was loaned to Premier League club Chelsea from Juventus until the end of the 2022–23 season with an option of a permanent transfer at the end of the season.

9- Gabriel Slonina

On August 2, 2022, Slonina signed for Premier League club Chelsea for a transfer fee of $10 million, potentially rising to $15 million with add-ons.

10- Joao Felix

Portuguese youngster has arrived Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid.

11- David Datro Fofana

The Ivorian forward joined the Blues from Molde earlier this month.

However, despite all the aforementioned signings, Chelsea have struggled for form this season and currently out of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and are 10th place in the Premier league.
