INEC cannot be trusted, says Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has said that the Independent National Electoral Commission cannot be trusted to conduct a free and fair election in Nigeria.

Fielding questions on Wednesday at ‘The Roundtable’, a programme organised by PUNCH Newspapers, Sowore said Nigerians were expecting elections to be held but could not force INEC to hold an election.

The publisher of Sahara Reporters alleged that INEC had not been conducting elections in the past, but selections.

He accused INEC of conniving with the government in power every election year to cause confusion in the polity in order to make the electorate lose interest in the election.

Gunmen Abduct Kwara Residents In Midnight Raid

Gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday raided Oluwalose community, Okolowo area, a suburb of Ilorin, Kwara State, abducting no fewer than two residents.

A source claimed that 15 people, the community chairman, Mr Buhari Tunde, were kidnapped.

According to the source, the gunmen left the community around 2am after policemen from the Operation Harmony Tactical Team responded to a distress call to repel the invasion of the armed men.

It was further learnt that the gunmen invaded the community on motorcycles

PSG Decides Against Allowing Messi Parade World Cup Trophy

Paris Saint-Germain has decided not to let Lionel Messi parade the World Cup trophy he won last month, due to a possible fan backlash.

PSG plays Angers at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.

It will be Messi’s first game back since Argentina defeated France in the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Le Parisien reports that the club will not allow the 35-year-old to parade the trophy on their home turf, which is often the custom for returning winners.

Alleged Rape: Zazzau Emirate Dismisses Palace Guard

The Zazzau Emirate Council in Kaduna State has dismissed a palace guard over alleged rape of a lady

The lady was said to have sought to see the Emir for assistance through the palace guard, but was taken elsewhere where she was allegedly raped.

The Media and Publicity Officer of the Zazzau Emirate, Abdullahi Aliyu Kwarbai in a statement on Wednesday, said that Zazzau Emirate Council under the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR has ordered for the immediate dismissal of Sama’ila Abubakar Rimin Tsiwa (One of the Palace Guard, Dogari) from the Services of the Emirate.”
