‘It Is Unacceptable That Our Budget For Health In The Last 6 Years Is Not Up To 2.5 Trillion’ – Obi

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has pointed out the need to invest in Nigeria’s health sector. Obi alleged that the health sector have lacked the supervision and tutelage for proper advancement. He used countries like Indonesia and India to cite an example of how they invested in their health sector while deriving money from rich people. Peter Obi believes that the money being spent by Nigerian rich politicians abroad can be equally spent in Nigeria to bolster the economy and bring confidence back into the sector.

He argued that the low monetary funds given to the health sector has reduced the quality of performance. He said, ”We have a country called Indonesia, they are 255 million people in population. They are providing health through insurance where poor people are paying less to nothing, the rich people are paying more. Same also in India where that have about 1.4 billion people, they have the same insurance. The budget there for the health sector in Nigeria is low, this year budget that was 1.5 trillion. The six years budget for health between 2015 to 2021 it’s not up to 2.5 trillion, that is unacceptable for a country of more than 200 million people.’
