Adamu Rugurugu, a repentant Boko Haram commander who was once a thorn in the flesh of innocent citizens residing in Borno State, has spoken about how Sambisa Forest can be cleared of terrorists. It should be noted that Sambisa Forest, located in Borno, has been a safe haven for terrorists despite the tireless efforts of the military.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Trust Newspaper, Rugurugu, who is an Islamic scholar, revealed that he had repented from terrorism for about two years now after Governor Zulum publicly announced an amnesty offer. He said that he was lured to join the dreaded sect after its members deceived him into believing that they were fighting Jihad. Despite his vast knowledge of Islam, the repentant terrorist stated he was lured because of his love for Islam; however, he found out along the way that what they were doing wasn’t Halal but Haram.
When asked about the unique feature of Sambisa forest that has hindered the military from capturing it, Rugurugu said, “Sambisa is a very large and thick forest, but if the federal government puts all the mechanisms in place, it will be easy to capture the whole forest.” It’s not as difficult as it seems. As we speak now, there is not a single military barrack inside Sambisa; why?
“If there are barracks inside Sambisa, no Boko Haram members would be hibernating there.” “There are barracks in several places around Sambisa, Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Chibok, Damboa, and others; why not two or more barracks inside Sambisa to stop their illegal movement?”
“I assure you that with the presence of the military in Sambisa and its environs, this crisis will come to an end because there are many hamlets and villages under Sambisa where they hide after perpetrating their evil acts. “Our government should destroy Sambisa with full force to restore peace in the region.”
