The attempt to create a single political party inside the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition has been openly rejected by members of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya party.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is the largest of the 16 parties that make up the ruling coalition, made the idea public earlier this week through its secretary general, Cleophas Malala.
But, Wetangula supporters have rejected the proposals after learning that they are a part of a bigger scheme to unite them under the control of one individual, which they feel is not a prudent course of action in light of the past.
Majimbo Kalasinga, a Kabuchai Member of Parliament, has stated that given the history of similar unions, they can predict how the current one will turn out and would prefer to leave Kenya Kwanza.
“Never. Never. Never. Instead of folding our party Ford Kenya, we would rather fold our tails in Kenya Kwanza. A idiot will learn from his own experience, but an intelligent man will learn from the experiences of others, the legislator has reportedly told The Standard.
The National Rainbow Coalition, founded by the late Mwai Kibaki as president, disintegrated shortly after the 2002 election.
Ruto has also recently had another similar event, as the Jubilee Party, which in the lead-up to the 2017 election united over 10 parties into one , abruptly disintegrated. He served as Jubilee’s deputy party leader.
Malala, however, asserted earlier this week that the proposed merger is the only course of action, arguing that having many parties severely cost Kenya Kwanza elective seats in the recently held election.
But, the former senator for Kakamega claimed that no one would be compelled to abandon his party.
“We respect all parties in Kenya Kwanza and we will not force any to dissolve itself. We will listen to views of our members before settling on any decision,” said the former Kakamega governor candidate.
