The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, have respectively urged the citizens of Nigeria ahead of the upcoming general elections, to vote for candidates who will invest hugely in education.
According to PUNCH, the National Presidents of ASUU and ASUP, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke and Dr Anderson Ezeibe, respectively told its correspondent in an exclusive interview, that the only way to completely avoid industrial strike in educational sector and some other systems, is if candidates who love education and can do everything to ensure that education stands in Nigeria, are elected.
“I hope after the election, we will have somebody who believes in education as the catalyst for the growth of the country because the recent Government doesn’t believe in it. The catalyst for growth for any Government is an investment in education, especially tertiary education”, ASUU President said, adding that the strike embarked last year by ASUU, was not an issue but a symptom that something was wrong with the Government.
