Jonathan, Mahama sue for calm, urge INEC to comply with electoral law

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and John Mahama, two former presidents of Ghana and Nigeria, have made peace appeals and encouraged the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to “address the concerns and procedural issues that have so far been brought up by various parties.”

In order to preserve Nigerians’ confidence in the present collation of the election results from February 25, 20233, the Elders have also urged INEC to adhere to the electoral law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, The Elders added that “they have begun a process of consultation with some of the presidential candidates and other significant stakeholders, bringing to them a message of peace in order to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the nation.”

Following the elections on Saturday, the Elders held meetings with a number of presidential hopefuls, ” Senator Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party.”
