Presidential Election: CSO Reveals States That Are At High Risk For Vote-buying And Violence

Almost immediately before the presidential vote, the Speak Out Africa Initiative, a civil society , designated Lagos, Kano, Kogi, Kaduna, Delta, Rivers, Abia, and Ebonyi as high-risk states for violence, vote-buying, and voter suppression.

During a conference with journalists on Thursday in Abuja, the ‘s executive director, Kenneth Eze, revealed this.

In 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, 1,405 election radar officers had been deployed, he said.

Security organizations, according to him, need to be aware of politicians who are in a difficult situation and ready to sabotage the electoral process.

We must not overlook the fact that some political figures are so weak and unpopular that they resort to inciting violence to sabotage the voting process. We have seen hate speeches, abuse of political opponents, and attacks that have heightened the political space.

“We want to warn the security authorities to keep a watch on the following states since there is a chance that undemocratic acts will be taken that are supporters of violence using our violence incidence tracker. Lagos is one of these states, according to him, and it is HIGH-RISK.

He claimed that there is a significant chance of political squabbles, vote-buying, violence, and other actions to taint the upcoming election in the states of Rivers, Delta, Kano, Kaduna, and Kogi.

Eze clarified that low-risk states that still needed security agency attention included Benue, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Anambra, and Enugu.
