Court rejects N5 million bail for Nollywood actress due to misuse of new naira notes.

Nollywood actress, Oge Okoye, has been slammed with a N5 million bail by a Federal High Court in Lagos, Nigeria, for her alleged involvement in the abuse of new naira notes. The actress was accused of using the new naira notes for a movie shoot without the appro of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The court ruled that the N5 million bail must be paid by two sureties, who must be civil servants earning not less than N2 million per annum. The sureties must also provide evidence of their tax payments for the past three years. The court also ruled that the actress must surrender her international passport to the court’s registrar.

The Central Bank of Nigeria had earlier warned that any person or group of persons found to be in possession of the new naira notes without its appro would be prosecuted. The Nollywood actress is the first person to be charged for this offense. If found guilty, she could face up to three years in prison or a fine of N500,000.
