The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has said that the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, must “be an activist” if he must lead a free and fair election in the coming days.

The AAC candidate while speaking during the meeting organised by INEC with political parties in Abuja, urged the Commission chairman to come clean regarding the state of the forthcoming elections.

Sport Varsity To Take Off Soon In Delta

The  much expected first Sports University in Nigeria is to commence both sporting activities and academic work in Delta State soon.

It is located in Idumuje Ugboko in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

Conducting journalists round facilities in the campus, founder of the university and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Delta North senatorial candidate, Prince Ned Nwoko, emphasised that admission into the institution would not be through JAMB but by natural sporting talents in addition to physical fitness.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has asked political parties to apply restraint in their prior to and after the general election.

The secret police issued the caution in a statement by Peter Afunanya, its spokesperson, on Tuesday.

The warning comes hours after Femi Fani-Kayode, a former minister and director of new media in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, was questioned over a tweet he made.

Falana Faults CBN Over Failure To Obey S’Court Order

Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, says the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was wrong for not obeying an order of the supreme court suspending the implementation of the February 10 deadline on the old naira notes.

Ruling on an ex parte application brought by three states: Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara, the supreme court, on February 8, restrained the CBN from giving effect to the deadline on the use of old notes.

Abubakar Malami. attorney-general of the federation (AGF), who is the sole respondent in the suit has also filed a preliminary objection challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has insisted that its February 10 deadline for the idity of old naira notes still stands.

Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, made the disclosure while briefing the diplomatic community at the ministry of foreign affairs in Abuja on Tuesday.

The development comes despite the ex parte order of the supreme court which restrained the federal government from implementing the February 10 deadline, pending the hearing of the matter on February 15.

Mustapha Audu, the spokesperson for the north-central arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, says Bola Tinubu will fix the “not-so-great” economic policies of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Audu spoke during a programme on Arise TV on Tuesday.
