NUAHP Assigns FG To Address The Mass Migration Of Medical Personnel.

Health professionals working under the umbrella of NUAHP, the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals, have asked the Federal Government to take urgent action to solve the problems that are leading to a mass departure of the greatest minds from the country’s health sector.

Health professionals have called on the federal government to organize a health summit with participation from key players in the sector to address the worrying brain drain in the Nigerian health sector and its effects on the delivery of healthcare.

In a statement released following a two-day meeting of its National Executive Council, NEC, they expressed regret that the continued brain drain among all cadres of health workers would undoubtedly result in a severe human resource shortage and could potentially bring down Nigeria’s entire health sector. In addition, NUAHP remarked that since the High-Powered Body’s report on the CONHESS upward adjustment was submitted, its members were no longer satisfied with how the Federal Ministry of Health was handling the implementation of the CONHESS adjustment.

In a joint statement, the President, Dr. Obinna Ogbonna, and General Secretary, Comrade Martin Egbanubi, expressed their impatience and urged the Federal Government to immediately circulate and put into effect the revised CONHESS.

According to the pair, implementing the modified CONHESS will significantly reduce brain emigration from the Nigerian health profession.

They urged security agencies to uphold expectations and ensure that they carry out their constitutional duties professionally during the election season, and they urged INEC to take steps to prevent the electoral process from being tainted by desperate politicians.

NEC also urges Nigerians, particularly Nigerian workers and healthcare professionals, to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards and cast their ballots for the appropriate candidates.

The NEC further urges INEC to continue distributing PVC up until election day and the government to make sure that no Nigerian is denied the right to vote, university students who are keen to fulfill their civic obligations.

The union demanded that the Abia State government pay the workers their accrued earnings.
